Create a Pet Garden

Plants like pet grass, catnip, barley, peppermint, basil, parsley, oregano, lemongrass, and thyme can help with digestion, freshen breath, and provide nutrients.

Dogs and cats love to snack on grasses and herbs, and that can be a good thing! Plants like pet grass, catnip, barley, peppermint, basil, parsley, oregano, lemongrass, and thyme can help with digestion, freshen breath, and provide nutrients. You may want to plant two containers, so you can move one outside and let the plants re-grow after they've been nibbled down.

Here's how to create a simple indoor pet garden.

Materials needed:

- Low, wide bowl or container

- Miracle-Gro® Indoor Potting Mix

- Saucer or tray

- Plants or seeds

pesticides or other chemicals on your pet garden.

Directions:

1. Use a wide, stable bowl or container low enough for your pet to reach, but at least 4‚ deep to allow roots to grow. Add drainage holes, if needed.

2. Pick a spot in your home that gets bright, indirect light, or plan to use a fluorescent grow light.

3. Fill 1/2 of the container with Miracle-Gro® Indoor Potting Mix if planting plants, or fill within an inch or two of the top if planting seeds.

4. If planting transplants, follow the spacing noted on the plant tags, then fill in the rest of the container with potting mix. If sowing seeds, follow the directions on the seed packets and keep the container out of your pet’s reach until the plants have matured.

5. Water after planting, making sure to put a saucer or tray under the container to catch drips. Keep the soil evenly moist, and remove and replace any plants if they start to decline. Remember not to use pesticides or other chemicals on your pet garden.

6. Let Fido or Mittens munch away!
