NOVEMBER OUTDOOR CHECK LIST 

  1. Empty and clean pots and planters. Store in a dry location for next spring.
  2. Turn off outdoor water faucets and protect them from frost before temperature freezes.
  3. Drain and store hoses.
  4. Dig up and store tender spring bulbs such as dahlias and gladiolas and store in cool dark place. Cover with hay, burlap or newspaper.
  5. Add protective mulch around plants and shrubs once soil has frozen to 1 inch or more. 
  6. Layer compost over cut back perennials. 
  7. Take soil samples of your gardens and lawn and send for testing to plan next spring’s adjustments. (Find Your Local Cooperative Extension)
  8. Continue to plant deciduous trees and shrubs until the ground freezes.
  9. Prune damaged or dead branches from trees and shrubs.
  10. Get ready for the birds.
