THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING

Spring is blooming on Martha’s Farm.

March may still bring cold fronts, but beautiful plants and their blooms will soon emerge - crocuses, irises, corydalis, bloodroot, and of course the bright yellow and white daffodils. One of my favorite spring blooms is the snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis. These beautiful white flowers are blooming all around my house. Snowdrops produce one very small pendulous bell-shaped white flower which hangs off its stalk like a “drop” before opening.

There are so many eye-catching flowers with more to enjoy in the coming weeks. Soon the trees will be filled with glorious leaves, and all the gardens will be bursting with color – wait and see!
